Re: Why....
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 8:04 AMFor some sick twisted unexplainable PBS reason they are PROUD to not watch tv.
Bullshit! They are all like Diane Chambers. Hiding their addiction in the closet on a wheely cart so if one of their "friends" drops by they can roll it back into hiding.
I am hooked and I am not ashamed. As long as they keep making such scintillating entertainment as My Two Dads, Two Guys and a Girl, and Two and a Half Men*...I am all over it.

Here Here.
My disease of addiction to tv has become chronic. I just got Tivo.
DVRs are cunning, baffling and powerful. Time to turn it over to my higher power (Tivo)

I am not precisely one of those people of whom Bear speaks, becasue I DO own a TV set, but I receive no stations on it - it's strictly a vehicle for DVD viewing - I'd like to think that I don't 'always tell you about it,' but this may not be the case; I do have a reputation for clearing a room -
TV is pervasive and I am often asked if I have seen commercial X or the latest episode of program Y; it's easy at these times to simply say, "I don't have the TV" when I could just say "no" and avoid the pitfall that I refer to as "holding my beer at waist level and talking like a hick over it."
my counter qustion: why do you ask? -

Re: Why....
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 4:23 PMI ask in an Andy Rooney kind of way. But also due to non tv owners who would actually judge me because I choose to watch all sorts of tv. Some imagine themselves superior to the 97% of us who watch. I don't judge non viewers, that woould be equally absurd. I'ts similar to the annoying expierence of being lectured at by a vegan food cop while trying to enjoy my taco. -

Re: Why....
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 4:46 PMDVRs can do for tv what google did for the net. You can zap thru commercials. Rumor has it that ther will soon be a chip called adnix. It will screen out and not record ads. I think Madison Avenue will try to nix that one.
I don't get how a militant non tv owner would be on the net. The only difference is that the net has billions of "channels" and tv has hundreds. -

and tv can't touch the net for porn. -

Re: Why....
Thu, May 12, 2005 - 6:22 PMI certainly *do* own a television (two, actually); I just never *watch* it.
Instead, I spend *way* too much time online, catching up on e-mail with people I have never met, and playing endless games of Minesweeper (or Mindless-sweeper, as I like to call it), even when it's no longer fun.
